“Acetylcholine Excess and Depression: A Connection that Suggests Safely Testable Hypotheses for Lessening Depression”

Depression should be treated in the same way as other chronic, non-brain-related problems like arthritis and a bad back.

A study showed that around half of patients who had received botox for wrinkles found relief from their depression within a few weeks. See
What did botox do?

Ideas:

#1 – Botox suppresses the release of Acetylcholine.
Acetylcholine high levels are being considered as a possible cause of depression. e
Acetylcholine can be synthesized from choline which is high in animal products and wheat germ.
#2 – Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptors (nAChRs), respond to acetylcholine.
#3 – Brain nAChRs can become desensitized to stimulants after repeated exposure.
#4 – The latest drug research on antidepressants has focused on nAChRs

My basic hypothesis is that many people eat a lot of choline-rich foods, which allows them to easily synthesize a lot of acetylcholine. Constant exposure to acetylcholine and other stimulators of nAChRs from both internal and external sources can cause brain desensitization. This is a condition that can lead to depression. Botox can be used to “reboot” the system by cutting off the acetylcholine supply, which allows the nAChRs become more sensitive.

Here’s how you can test it, other than getting botox treatments: You should go on a low-choline fast for three to four days (unless youre pregnant or otherwise unable) during which time it would be wise to avoid any substances that could affect nAChRs (esp. You should avoid nicotine, alcohol, or recreational drugs. Check back in a few weeks to see if your feelings have changed. However, don’t follow the low-choline diet too long. Choline is essential, but not as often as we need it.
You can also try gardening. Botox is often found in soil, but only in small quantities. It has been proven that therapeutic horticulture can reduce clinical depression.

Caution: Avoid having too much acid in the mouth. This will cause an enzyme to be activated that breaks down Acetylcholine. Study: “pH-dependent hydrolysis of acetylcholine: Consequences for non-neuronal acetylcholine”
“Both esterases have a pH dependence. Acetylcholine is less active at pH values below 6. At low pH .”
, Acetylcholine cannot be hydrolyzed.

The brain is located right next to the oral/nasal cavities. John Wemmie (University of Iowa neuroscientist), Ph.D. is interested in acid’s effects on the brain. His research suggests that brain acidity, or low pH, is associated with panic disorders, anxiety and depression. His research also shows that acidity is important for normal brain activity .”

Many soft drinks and beverages are pH below 4. (I made a mistake on a slide in which I stated that coffee has a pH below 4. However, this is incorrect. Coffee has a pH range between 4.5-7. I was probably thinking about lemony iced coffee instead.

If your mouth is acidic, you can drink slightly alkaline water (PH just over 7), between meals. Filter pitchers can be used to increase the pH of your water as it cools in the fridge.
After you have had soda pop or other acidic drinks, rinse out your mouth with water and some baking soda. After you have finished, spit it out.
Be careful with fresh lemon juice or vinegar. They are very acidic.
